Financial Systems

Financial Systems

Financial Engineering is among the fields of Industrial Engineering in M.Sc. of which admissions have been commenced as an independent branch since 1384, through Industrial Engineering code in M.Sc. exam.

The academic definition of Financial Engineering is as follows: “design, development, and innovation in financial tools and systems, suggesting creative solutions to financial issues, and reducing the risks to increase the value of the companies”; this definition is ungrounded in the history of this major in world’s economy, specifically, the investment industry of the US in the 90s A.D. This major was first introduced in New York University (NYU), and today possesses a unique importance in the US market, even as a professional certificate.

From a scientific perspective, this major is acknowledged as a multidisciplinary field; it is a combination of applied mathematics (financial mathematics); numerical, calculation, and statistical methods; information technology; operations research (optimization); and investment and risk management. Existence of the preceding major, Financial Management, might bring about the question that what the difference between Financial Engineering and the classic Financial Management is. Answering this question, the most important point is the approach of creation of tools, systems, and backup financial analysis in Financial Engineering; meaning that in Financial Engineering, the target is designing the system and the backup analysis tools for financial and investment affairs.

Financial Engineering has broad applications, and embraces the areas from financial analysis in an organization, to investment analysis and feasibility assessment in an industry, and national investment in the country’s economy. Any type of organization or industry is a potential customer for Financial Engineering; however, the investment industry, bank, and insurance are the most significant sectors which need the services of Financial Engineering. Main focus areas of this major in M.Sc. program are as follows:

1-    Financial analysis of firms

2-    Competitive pricing

3-    Investment set

4-    Financial decision-making backup

5-    Business and economic backup

6-    Financial systems design

In Iran, due to the growth of economy, development of financial and monetary institutes, and the importance of capital and financing markets, each of the areas mentioned above might come handy in planning and execution in industry and market.

Drawing on the cachet of its experience in industrial engineering, MBA, and information technology, in addition to the expertise of its professors in the basics of Financial Management, Mehralborz offers the students a standard quality of education in this major, matching the syllabus of Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology.
