The galloping pace of science and technology, has brought about the emergence of various engineering fields and specialties; production and service systems have expanded as well. Proper organization of such branches necessitates the deployment of new advanced methods. While most of engineering majors are focused on the technical issues of different processes and products, Industrial Engineering is more concerned about organizing institutes, in which other than raw material and technical matters, the human factor plays a significant role.


Industrial Engineering takes advantage of applying different techniques and principles, to design and improve systems that encompass human, material, data, energy, and equipment, in order to pave the way of production and service offer. It requires mathematical, physical and social science and skills, along with engineering design qualifications and techniques, to achieve the goal of analyzing, evaluating, and organizing these systems. Indeed, Industrial Engineering connects and coordinates the targets of management, and institute’s technical operation.


Industrial Engineering is a field of engineering, in which human factor is one of the vital elements in the studied systems, and it attempts to increase productivity and efficiency in all aspects and methods. As a result, industrial engineers are employed for planning, controlling and enhancing the activities of different organizations. These activities may include production, innovation, service offer, transportation, and organization data flow. Taken all this into account, industrial engineers pave the ground for interaction of different expertise and teamwork in an effective way; therefor, designing, planning, execution, and supervision are done more coherently. This solidarity can, in turn, lead to continuous improvements of ease of activities, comfort of employees, reduction of costs, enhancement of quality, and satisfaction of customers.


The emergence of Industrial Engineering as a specialty, goes back to the Industrial Revolution. By virtue of growth of factories and firms, the need for management and management thinking was risen. A vast number of people make efforts for improving the quality of commodities. Along with inventions and process innovations, scientific management was introduced as a professional method. The efforts to scientifically formulate management were embarked upon. Frederick Winslow Taylor developed his ideas, theses, and theories. Frank Bunker Gilbreth and his wife Lillian Moller Gilbreth were able[MRZ1] to invent new tools through their work studies via analyzing movements. Moreover, psychological issues, human motivations, operation, and reward received sufficient attention. Taylor and his contemporaries’ endeavors concentrated on formulating the fundamental principles. These activities were soon acknowledged as scientific management. An association was established, which was named Institute of Industrial Engineers[MRZ2] afterwards.


Gradually course materials, Industrial Engineering degree, and related plans were considered and elaborated upon, and eventually industrial engineering departments were formed and spread.

Nowadays, this field is being taught in many universities worldwide. The importance of this major is undisputed, due to the prevailing competitive situation, and the necessity of effective and efficient usage of resources.



This major was established in some Iranian universities, first under the name “Machinery Engineering”, then “Production Engineering”, and since 1969 “Industrial Engineering”. Gradually the number of these universities increased; now, this major is offered in Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Master of Science (M.Sc.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) by a lot of universities in Iran.

Industrial Engineering consists of four main fields in B.Sc. and six ones in M.Sc., three most active of which are as follows:

1-    Industrial Engineering;

2-    System and Productivity Management;

3-    Economic and Social Systems.

Acquiring the scientific and technical knowledge and experience in holding Information Technology Engineering, Industrial Management, and MBA, Mehralborz University commenced accepting students in Industrial Engineering, System and Productivity Management field since 2012. In 2013, Industrial Engineering field was considered as well. Currently, students are being accepted in the fields mentioned above, at Mehralborz University.



Master of Science in Industrial Engineering, a period of training with an emphasis on advanced training in industrial engineering and analysis systems for industrial and aims to train specialists who are enjoying the lessons and knowledge of engineering and specific lessons of this period mighty to analyze and provide systems consisting of human, material and machine are. Given the variety of manufacturing industries, service units and industrial projects under construction and the growing need for industries and various military units as well as many service centers in industrial engineering specialists, the importance of top experts in the field of education becomes more apparent.

Graduates of the Master of Industrial Engineering can operate in different fields and areas of their work is not limited to a particular industry and their capabilities can be used in industries and services. Such capabilities can be noted as follows:

·       Paving the way for implementation of the system needed

·       Creating profit necessary conditions for recovery activities

·       App plan and model to achieve best represents the performance of the operating system

·       Control system to track defects and provide optimal model

·       Provide appropriate patterns for the design of processing plant

·       Planning and participation in industrial research projects

·       Find logical connection between the components and systems manufacturing and non-manufacturing
