With a population of 1.2 billion* and a little over 11%** enrolled in higher education there is a need today to greatly expand capacity of the educational sector in India to meet the 89% unreached.

E-learning is part of the solution to offer education and a path to employability for the 1.1 billion. The opportunities and possibilities offered are great – for students, educators and the economy.

ICDE to establish Quality Network – we now invite institutions and associations to submit proposals for Focal Points on Quality

ICDE member institutions and associations are invited to propose candidates for Focal Points on Quality. The candidate should be well anchored within its own institutions’ quality work. A representative for the institutional senior management (Vice Chancellor, Quality Director etc.) is preferred. Recognized experts outside the senior management can also be nominated, then with a priority for participating in the regional task forces.

LangOER Conference: ‘Open Education: Promoting Diversity for European Languages’

Regional Consultations on Open Educational Resources Announced

The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) is conducting six Regional Consultations around the world in the lead up to the 2nd World Open Educational Resources (OER) Congress, scheduled to be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 18 to 20 September 2017. The consultations are being held in partnership with UNESCO, Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO and UNESCO Chair on Open Technologies for OER and Open Learning (Jožef Stefan Institute, Slovenia), and with the generous support of The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Quality Matters Conference

On October 30- November 2, in Portland, OR, USA, Quality Matters will host its 8th Annual conference on quality assurance in online learning. This year’s conference theme "Blazing New Trails" will explore the future of online education and the role of quality management within it. Quality Matters, a non-profit organization with over 1000 member institutions, is a leader in quality assurance and seeks to promote and improve the quality of online education and student learning. Quality Matters' membership spreads across 48 states in the US and 6 other countries, and it is also a member of ICDE and INQAAHE.

TNS Gallup: People want further education online
A recent survey from TNS Gallup in Norway reveals that 77 percent of those who want further education, want to do it online. 

The survey is representative for the entire population in the age span 26 to 60. More than half say yes to more education, and the women are raising the bar with 57 percent vs the men’s 50. The motivation for further education is more or less equal in the different parts of the country. More information...


Registration is open for the 9th EDEN Research Workshop, entitled "Forging new pathways of research and innovation in open and distance learning: Reaching from the roots" 4-6 October 2016

The conference is organised by EDEN in collaboration with the Institute of Education and the Center for Lifelong Learning at Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg in Germany.

IAU 15th General Conference in Bangkok, Thailand from 13-16 November 2016.

Addressing the theme "Higher Education: a catalyst for sustainable and innovative societies" and with more than 60 speakers from around the world, this General Conference will convene a large number of Higher Education Institution heads and other senior delegates. Commemorating the 100 years of the Thai University System on the campus of the oldest university in the country, participants will discuss the various strategies and practices that demonstrate how HEIs contribute to innovation and sustainability and what more can be done, especially through IAU, to become true catalysts for change. Leading Globally Engaged Universities

In 2015, the IAU launched its unique leadership development programme entitled. Hosted twice a year by an IAU Members on a different continent each time, it brings together a cohort of 15-20 HE representatives in senior leadership positions from all over the world. The week-long session combines debate about strategic leadership issues and challenges in HE in multicultural and globalized contexts with visits to local institutions.  More information...


Going Global 2017 - submit a speaker proposal

Do you think you could help shape Going Global 2017? Original and challenging ideas and perspectives from stakeholders are at the core of our conference programme every year.

The British Council is seeking innovative, agenda-setting proposals that will facilitate the sharing of knowledge and insights across borders. They are especially interested to hear from thought leaders anticipating and driving future agendas. Proposals can be for a speaking slot on the programme as a presenter, panelist or chair, or for a poster to be displayed and presented at the conference.

Applications for speaker proposals open on Tuesday 30 August and close on Monday 3 October 2016. For further information and guidance on how to apply, see here.

All ICDE members are eligible for a reduced rate conference ticket to attend Going Global 2017 which takes place from the 22-24 May in London, UK.
